momentary relapse

the sun’s still high at 4 p.m.
and i’m wondering too damned much
why did beatdom pick me up
and slam me into a 9 to 5 entendre
letting my soul bounce away from my mind
like a dusty sack of cement

i wanna go back one more time
to leafy reefer and zig zagging lights
music that ain’t subtle and bamboo bongs
i wanna espouse in innocence
and be nervous about a first fuck
wanna take her “there” without breaking a sweat

but it’s back to the real roots now
the pine trees outside the homeplace
are forty feet tall and massive
they bend and shake in this april wind
and i’m thinking of androla’s basement
rather be there than in my dead father’s bedroom

rather be anywhere, but where i am
